Lightning McQueen Cake

I started with making a 10 inch square cake ready to carve:
Inspiration:

I asked Christopher which decoration he wanted on the cake and he chose the Rust-eze logo over the piston cup.

Getting the shape right for the body, I drew it out on paper and then cut it out to use as a template:
Body cut out and the front slightly rounded off:

Figuring out if the top is the right shape:
Building up the shape with the top, the headlights and the back spoiler:
Covered in buttercream/crumb coating:
First lot of fondant:
This was NOT my friend!!! This stupid stuff cracked when I put it on the cake!
I had to pull it off and redo some more fondant:

This pic always makes me think - I've murdered the cake! Lol.
2nd lot of fondant all coloured:
It worked!!! THANK GOD!! I did not want to have to do it for a 3rd time
All brushed down and the icing sugar rubbed off as much as possible
Decoration time. All hand cut. I drew these out on paper first (with the exception of the 95's which I cut out freehand) to check that they would be the right size for the cake and then cut them all out
Circle cut out using my biscuit cutter set and then handwritten Rust-eze
Eyes:
Finished Cake!!!
All finished with a plaque with his name on ready for his party
This was the hardest cake that I have ever made but I am soooo pleased with how it turned out. It was what Christopher asked for when I asked him what he wanted and he absolutely loved it, he wanted to touch it and stroke it as soon as he saw it.
